Pitchers:
Angels:
John Lackey, 1-0, 0.00 ERA
Yankees:
C.C. Sabathia, 1-0, 1.35 ERA
Time:
4:30 PT, FOX
Anytime Lackey and C.C. duel, its a great game and it will be interesting to see how both pitchers do. Hopefully our pitcher is more effective and we come out with the dubya. Go Halos! |

Thoughts on the game:
1) CC was just too good. It's why he gets paid what he gets paid.
2) The top of the Angels lineup really hurt. 0-8 with 3 K's. Abreu's performance was really shocking to me. I was expecting to see an extra motivated (Yankee last year) Abreu do well tonight, but CC really made him struggle.
3) Angels defense was surprising. They're such a fundamentally sound team, I couldn't believe some of the things I was seeing with poor throws, and defensive miscues. Figgins/Aybar.....wow.
For Game 2, I am surprised that Saunders is going to be the guy. It's fine if they want Weaver to start at home, but Kazmir has been so good against the Yankees in recent seasons....I don't know why Saunders is getting the nod. I really think that the Yankees are going to go up 2-0, because I think Saunders won't get the ground balls necessary, but won't be able to handle the Yanks lineup.
Weaver-Pettitte is a pretty big advantage to the Angels, and Kazmir vs. a tired Sabathia may be an advantage to the Angels as well....probably gonna be a long, long series. |

Tonight, they were either overconfident or intimidated and Figgins really needs to get it together.
If we get a win in Game 2, I like our chances since we got 3 at the Big A after that.
NOTE: My point is always being proven right. TO WIN IN THE PLAYOFFS YOU GOTTA SPEND $. CC showed tonight that he was worth every penny of that contract. Just look at our lineup.... Scioscia has done a phenomenal job working with what he has. This team clearly still needs another bat. One that WONT DISSAPEAR IN OCTOBER. We might even need a new Ace... I still think we should have pulled a deal on Halladay and let Aybar walk and have Maiz as our new SS.
Lets hope Saunders shows up and puts on a great performance and helps tie up the series heading to the Big A. |
